In the Details: Confidence

I was prompted to update some information the last time I signed into the site for one of my credit cards. This is what the page looked like below the form field.

That’s distinctly unhelpful. Yes, I was able to move closer to the display, squint, and read the labels on the buttons. I found the Save button and successfully completed the update. By most measures, this would be considered a trivial bug. But it’s worse than that.

This causes me to seriously doubt the competence of the company. It erodes my confidence. If they can’t get a simple little detail like the readability of button labels right, can I really trust them with my money? Can I trust them with my personal information? Is it secure?

The visual design and interaction design of your application is a more important part of your brand than any of your marketing materials.
